“Albany Rocks: The Works Of Amy Modesti”

Happy November to all of my family, friends, and followers of “ALM Fine Art And Photography”! I hope that everybody had a nice Halloween and enjoyed eating lots of Halloween candy from attending your parties or from “Trick Or Treating”. I also want to say a special thank you to everybody that had taken the time to “Like” my artist page, “ALM Fine Art And Photography”, on Facebook, and viewed my revised artist website. On my website and social media pages, you can stay updated on what I’m up to within the visual arts and music community.

In case you haven’t recently checked out my Facebook event, I’m happy to announce my upcoming photography exhibition that I’m having at the Eden Advisory Services And Café in Loudonville, NY, “Albany Rocks: The Works Of Amy Modesti”. The opening reception will take place on Friday, December 15, 2017 and it’s free and open to the public. The timing of the event will take place from 7:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. This exhibition will be on view until two weeks after the reception has passed (the last official week/weekend of 2017). Unlike my previous exhibitions that I’ve had at this venue, this is the first time that I will have a solo photography exhibition with a concentration on local musicians and the local music scene, and well-established bands that I had seen touring through the Capital Region!! If you have watched my videos on Facebook (or Facebook Live) or even viewed my photos on Instagram or my artist page, music is a huge part of my life!! I spend most of my time when I can, supporting and promoting my artist friends and musician friends in their endeavors that occur within the local community and beyond. This time around, you’ll be able to get a glimpse into who I had seen perform in 2017 and other past events.

As part of the promotional deal that I am having at my opening, for each photo that is sold, a patron will receive a free local music CD from a local artist or band. I am seeking the assistance of my musician friends or any local bands or performers for any music CD’s that you wish to donate or even sell at the opening! If you have any CD’s that you would like to give away (or even sell) as part of my promotional deal, please let me know ASAP and I will be able to meet with you to pick up the merchandise!!

Similar to my previous opening in January, I am also having an open mike jam to go along with my music-photography based exhibition show. Any local musicians, whether you’re performing as a solo act, duo, or even as a trio, are welcome to participate in the jam during the reception. The Eden Café has their own sound system and stage where you’re able to perform. The only thing that the musicians need to bring with them is their own musical instrument, cords, or any other gear that you think that you might need. For a reference on what the Eden Café stage looks like, you can view my photos that were taken during my January reception.  Any local musicians interested in performing and want to setup a time to perform, please send me a private message or email ASAP before the slots are all filled up. Feel free to look at the remaining time slots that are available and let me know what would work for you.

Since I get out of work at 6:00 p.m., I plan on being at the café early to be present for the  open mike jam/opening. It would give people an opportunity to see the show early before they go to their later commitments. Here’s the times that I was thinking of having the open mike jam to proceed as follows;

Open Mike Jam Schedule 

6:00-6:20 p.m.: I get out of work at 6:00 p.m. Gives me a chance to drive to the café to setup any last minute touch ups before opening. Stage should be setup and ready to go for the first performer to perform. Musician would arrive to setup their gear and do a sound check.

6:20-6:30 p.m.: Musician/band should setup their gear for their first performance.

6:30-6:50 p.m.: Open Mike Jam Begins (Solo performance by Randall Mauger) 

6:50-7:00 p.m.: Take down of musical gear, second performer sets up gear for performance/sound check.

7:00-7:20 p.m.: Performance By Duo, “Keller & McGowan” (Steven Keller and Peter McGowan) 

7:20-7:30 p.m.: Musician takes down gear. Next performer sets up gear for performance/sound check.

7:30-7:50 p.m.: *Opening Reception Begins*, (Performance by duo, John Cehowski and Jim Billings) 

7:50-8:00 p.m.: Musician takes down their gear, next musician sets up gear for performance/sound check.

8:00-8:20 p.m.: Solo performance by Kevin Wayne 

8:20-8:30 p.m.: Musician takes down their gear, next musician sets up gear for performance/sound check.

8:30-8:50 p.m.: Solo Performance By Harry Coyle

8:50-9:00 p.m.: Musician takes down their gear, next performer sets up gear for performance/sound check.

9:00-9:20 p.m.: Final Musician performs their set to close out the exhibition opening.

9:20-9:30 p.m.: Musician takes down their gear. Setup for open mike jam is taken down and put away for the evening. *Opening reception ends at 9:30 p.m.*

Apart from preparing for my exhibition, I have been keeping myself involved within the visual arts and music community! This past Saturday evening, I photo shot this year’s “Groovin’ Ghostly Legends And Friends” show held at The Palace Theatre in Albany, NY for the local newsweekly, TheSpot518!  I had a blast photo shooting and attending this event for a great cause since all of the proceeds from the event went towards the Veteran’s Miracle Center. At the end of August 2017, I have also accepted a second part-time position, serving as a reporter and freelance photographer for “The Eastwick Press”, a local newsweekly based in Eastern Rensselaer County. I’ve been responsible for covering and taking photos of sports games, community events, and other arts, music, and theater based events that are occurring within the Town of Brunswick, City of Troy, NY, and other surrounding areas within Rensselaer County. I’m  still volunteering for “TheSpot518” and I am now officially a contributing photographer for the newsweekly! I also had the honor of participating in the photographing and doing the videography of the local Country group, “The Kyle Bourgault Band”, as they opened up for “Charlie Daniels” and the “Scooter Brown Band” at this year’s NYS Food Festival held at Empire State Plaza in Albany, NY. I still keep myself busy attending and supporting my friends at various musical performances, tribute events, benefit events, fall festivals, and artist openings. I’m happy and thankful to  be apart of these amazing opportunities and be surrounded by amazing musician friends, artists, and other peers that have included me in their lives/events and accept me for who I am as an individual. I am looking forward to seeing what could happen next for me in 2018.

“Modesti’s Photo Folk Art and Concert Photo Experience” Exhibition Shows News

Happy Spring “ALM Fine Art And Photography” followers!! I hope that this new season has been treating you well!! So far, my spring adventures have been keeping me busy, now that the snow has melted and the warmer weather is starting to come back to Upstate NY!!

Since my last blog post, I’ve achieved some great things this spring. I had began to get myself back into journalism again. I wrote a review for both “Nippertown” and “TheSpot518” of the “Maroon 5 ft. Tinashe and R. City” performance at the Times Union Center that became published in both publications at the end of March. The review became #9 on Nippertown’s Top 10 reads during the week of March 24, 2017 on their blog, with my photo of Maroon 5 front man, Adam Levine, featured on that blog. I’m hoping to be able to publish another concert review for another event that I attended at the end of March, “Rocktopia”, at the Palace Theatre in Albany that I attended for the first time soon!! I also had an opportunity to participate in the 2017 Photo Regional Show at the Albany Center Gallery in a salon style exhibition. Unfortunately, none of my photos that I entered in the regional show made it past the first round of judging. I also participated in a group exhibition show and performance event at the Eden Café featuring guitarist, Randall Mauger and comedian, Ed Smyth as well towards the beginning of March.

I’m also continue to explore my passion for photography by doing my best to attend local community events and concerts when I can. I recently had some more photos published in a collaborative photo gallery spread inside “TheSpot518” with local concert photographer, Garret Mac Aoidh (GMac Photography) for the benefit event, “Love For Greg: Benefit Fundraiser For Greg Nash” at The Hollow Bar and Kitchen in Albany, NY, “4th Annual Dustin Mele Memorial Concert” at Revolution Hall, a few photographs that I’ve even shared on Instagram have been printed in the paper as well. I also had the honor to have a photo that I had taken of a local musician re-used for a concert advertisement for the band, “High Rollers”, who just had their performance at One Caroline St. Bistro this past Friday evening, as well as other photos that local bands had shared and used for their event postings on Facebook (Thank You “The Coveralls” and “Average Bear” for using and sharing my photos with your fans recently). I just received my ticket to attend and photo shoot, “Move Music Festival” on Thursday at Cohoes Music Hall and The Hangar On The Hudson. It’s going to be a busy week of neat photo shoots and other concert opportunities that I’ll attend in the Capital Region. Last month, I also took down my pop-up mini show at the Sycaway M&T Bank where I featured a few of my concert photographs that I took last year at the Brunswick Community Center of “The Lustre Kings”. I’m hoping to be able to showcase some more of my photographs at the bank again in the fall.

I’m happy and excited to announce my two upcoming exhibition shows and open mike jams that I’m going to be having at two new venues within the next few weeks. For the first time, I’m going to be participating in “First Friday Albany”, a monthly art, music and community event occurring in Albany during the First Friday of every month, at the Alacrity Frame Workshop, located in Albany, NY. It’ll take place on “Cinco De Mayo”, Friday, May 5, 2017 from 5-9:00 p.m. and it’s free to the public. It will be my first exhibition that I’ll have at the gallery. It’ll be on view until Wednesday, May 31, 2017. A majority of the work that you may have seen in “Modesti’s Photo Folk Art Experience *Plus” in January will be on view as part of the show.

My second exhibition and open mike jam, “Modesti’s Concert Photo Experience”, is going to take place Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the River Street Beat Shop in Troy, NY, as part of the Troy Waterfront Farmer’s Market. It’ll take place from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. and it’s free to the public. This one day exhibition show is going to feature my concert photography that I had taken of local musicians/bands and any touring acts that I had an opportunity to capture. Any local musicians and bands are strongly encouraged to participate in the open mike jam that’ll be held during the opening. Anybody that’s interested in performing at the open mike jam can contact me or the owner of the River Street Beat Shop, Jimmy Barrett, for further details. This is also my first ever exhibition show I’ll have at the music shop.

Enclosed is an idea of the schedule that I have in mind for the Beat Shop open mike jam. Guests can have an opportunity to sign up for a time slot or join in during the free slots to perform a set of music. Here’s the times as follows. “Modesti’s Photo Folk Art Experience *Plus”

Happy New Year to all of my friends, family, and social media and website followers!! I hope that 2017 has been an awesome year for you all so far and that you’ve been doing your best to stick to your New Year’s Resolutions. 2016 was certainly a busy year for me for sure since I had last updated you about my last exhibition show that had previously occurred at the Eden Advisory Services And Café. Since that time occurred, I became a volunteer freelance photographer for the new Capital Region arts and entertainment weekly newspaper, “TheSpot518”. Some of my photographs have been featured on the newspaper’s website in both their online gallery as well as inside their newspaper for community events such as the first ever “BluesFest” held at Prospector’s Restaurant in Schaghticoke, NY, “Off The Record Trio at Galleria 7 Harvest Festival in Colonie, NY”, “The Lustre Kings at Rustic Barn Pub in Troy, NY”, their best of 2016 photo gallery, and the first ever “Buck-Stock”, a benefit and memorial concert held in memory of local musician and photographer, Buck Malen, at The Hangar On The Hudson in Troy, NY. I’m thankful and blessed to be a part of this organization that has given me an opportunity to share and document interesting and eventful community events that are occurring within the local community through my use of photography and even the use of Facebook Live that I’ve been also using since the beginning of October to record local bands and touring groups performing at various community events. It’s also gotten me back into focusing on journalism photography within the visual arts and entertainment field. I’ve even had the honor of having a photograph of mine being used in conjunction of another local photographer’s photo, used in a concert advertisement for the local blues band, “High Rollers”, at One Caroline Street Bistro in Saratoga Springs, NY, that has been used since September 2016!!

Towards the end of 2016, I started to re-use my Flickr blog to upload more photographs that I’ve taken since my free space is starting to fill up on my artist website. “Modesti’s Photo Folk Art Experience *Plus”

I’m happy to announce that on this upcoming Friday, January 20, 2017, I’m going to be having my second artist exhibition opening reception and my first ever open mike jam session that I’ll be hosting at the Eden Advisory Services and Café in Loudonville, NY. This is going to be my first solo exhibition that I’ll be having at the café and it’s free to attend for all ages. The opening reception is going to be taking place from 7:30-9:30 p.m. There’s going to be an open house dinner that’s going to be available for patrons to eat a meal at the café if they wished starting at 4:30 p.m. As part of the “*Plus” part of the show, local musicians are able to make cameo appearances for your listening pleasure.

My exhibition this time is going to focus on the theme of what I consider to be “Social Culture”, through a selection of paintings and digital photographs that I’ve made. In a world of communication within the digital era, have we lost the human connection?!  Through my interaction and connection with other individuals that I’ve interacted with within my life, to experiencing moments that have an important significance to me within the arts & music scene, and through my travels within the Capital Region and beyond, I’m  able to define what “social culture” means to me while remaining in touch with the human connection through her delicate paintings and digital photographs. In today’s society, I use painting and digital photography to capture moments where I immerse myself within the community and its arts and culture that is abundant within the Capital Region; even if it means attending local concerts/community events, to checking out nature and local tourist attractions, to viewing the rich history of an area or region through the visual arts, all things that I enjoy the most. My photographic subjects that I’ve focused on in this exhibition include concert performances of various bands, community events, and special benefit events and performances, boat photography, travel and nature photography, flower photography, travel photography scenes from Albany, NY, Christmas themed photos, and even selected photographs that were seen in the online galleries and newsprint from “TheSpot518”. All of the photos I’ve taken were from 2015-2017.Also featured in the show are my horoscope paintings, new paintings that I had made when I was an art major at both HVCC and MCLA that you have all never seen before, and some black and white photography that I took at HVCC  that will be in their binders. Work can be viewed until the week of February 4,2017. If you wish to purchase anything or want a tour of my work if you weren’t able to make it to the opening, please let me know and I can do my best to meet with you upon request.

I’m still seeking the request of local musicians that are interested in performing a set of music as part of the open mike jam that I’m going to be hosting at the opening. You can perform as a solo act, duo, or even as a tri0 if you wish. Please feel free to bring your instrument and other cords that you may need. You don’t need to bring a guitar amplifier with you. The Eden Café has their own microphones, stands, cords, lighting, PA, and other accessories that you may need to perform on their stage. I was told to start the open mike jam session at 6:00 p.m. since the café starts to get busy during that given time. The stage will be setup for the musicians in advance before they arrive to perform. Here’s an idea of the time frame that I have in mind for when the open mike jam can begin as follows;

6:00-6:20 p.m. Introducing group and has first set/group perform

6:20-6:30 p.m.: Break/ setup next band

6:30-6:50 p.m.: Second set/Band perform

6:50-7:00 p.m.: Break/setup next band

7:00-7:20 p.m.: Third set/Band perform

7:20-7:30 p.m.: Break/setup next band

7:30-7:50 p.m.: Fourth set/Band perform (7:30 opening reception begins)

7:50-8:00 p.m.: Break/Setup next band

8:00-8:20 p.m.: Fifth Set/Band perform

8:20-8:30 p.m.: Break/setup next band

8:30-8:50 p.m.: Sixth Set/Band perform

8:50-9:00 p.m.: Break/setup next band

9:00-9:20 p.m.: Final Act Performs

9:20-9:30 p.m.: Closing remarks for opening reception, End event and take down equipment.

For those of you that had asked in advance if they could perform at the opening as either a solo act or even as a trio that are definitely going to be making an appearance at the opening, please confirm your time slot with me so that way you can secure your spot at the open mike jam and perform. For the empty slots that are available, for those of you that wish to perform when the opening is occurring are more than welcome to perform on the spot as well. Please let me know if this schedule works out well for everybody and their needs. I’m happy to finally get everything that I needed for this show completed on time before the week of Martin Luther King Day in which this event is taking place. Also a huge thank you to the musicians for taking the time and requested to perform at the open mike jam so far! I really appreciate your help and support into making this event into a huge success.
